Candy corn is the classic Halloween guessing-jar candy — it's cheap, it's bright, and nobody can resist taking a guess. If you've got a mason jar and a bag of candy corn and you want to know how many pieces will fit (or you're staring at a contest jar and want to win it), here's the answer by jar size, the quick math, and a free tool to calculate any jar.

How many candy corns fit in a mason jar?

A standard quart (32 oz) mason jar holds roughly 520 pieces of candy corn. A pint (16 oz) jar holds about 260, and a gallon jar holds a little over 2,000. Candy corn is a short, tapered cone, so pieces nest together better than round candies — which is why a jar of candy corn holds far more pieces than the same jar of gumballs or Hershey's Kisses.

Candy corn by jar size

Jar size Approximate candy corn
8 oz jar (1 cup) ~130
12 oz jar ~195
16 oz jar (pint mason jar) ~260
24 oz jar ~390
32 oz jar (quart mason jar) ~520
64 oz jar (half gallon) ~1,040
1 gallon jar (128 oz) ~2,085

These are estimates from our Candy Jar Calculator. The real count shifts with how the pieces settle (tapping the jar packs them tighter), the exact shape of the jar, and whether it's filled to the shoulder or all the way to the lid.

How many candy corns fit in a 32 oz jar?

About 520 pieces. A 32 oz jar is the same thing as a quart mason jar, and it's the most common contest size — big enough to look impressive, small enough that one bag fills it. Filled to the very top and tapped down, you can push past 550.

How many candy corns fit in a 16 oz jar?

About 260 pieces. A 16 oz pint jar is the classic classroom and office-desk size. It's exactly half the quart, so if you know one number you know the other.

How many candy corns are in a bag?

Useful when you're buying for a jar. A piece of candy corn weighs roughly 2 grams, so a standard 11 oz bag holds about 150 pieces and a 20 oz bag about 280. That means a quart jar takes about 3½ standard bags, a half gallon about 7, and a one-gallon jar about 14 bags (roughly 4½ pounds of candy corn). Calculate your exact jar

Got a different size, or want a more precise number? Use our free Candy Jar Calculator — pick candy corn, enter your jar size in ounces, and it gives you an instant estimate. It also covers jellybeans, M&M's, Skittles, Hershey's Kisses, gummy bears and more.

The quick math (for any candy)

You can't just divide the jar's volume by one piece of candy, because candy doesn't pack perfectly — there's air between the pieces. The rule of thumb: take the jar's volume, multiply by a packing factor to account for the gaps (candy corn nests well, so it leaves less air than round candies), and divide by the volume of one piece. Our calculator does this for you with measured values for each candy.

Winning the candy corn guessing jar

If you're up against a Halloween contest jar, skip the math and work from the table: figure out which jar size you're looking at (a quart mason jar is about 7 inches tall; a gallon jar is about 10 inches), find it above, and then adjust. Is the jar filled only to the shoulder? Knock off 10–15%. Was it clearly tapped and packed? Add 5–10%. Most guessers go far too low with candy corn because the pieces are small, so a guess near the table value will usually beat the room.
