Looking for the size of an Oreo cookie — the diameter in inches or millimeters, how thick it is, how much one weighs, or how much surface area it covers? Here are the numbers in one table, with a note on where each one comes from, plus the same figures for Double Stuf, Mega Stuf, Thins and Mini Oreos.

How big is a regular Oreo?

A classic Oreo is about 1.75 inches across (roughly 4.4 cm, or 44–45 mm), about 0.47 inches thick (12 mm), and weighs 11.3 grams. That diameter gives each cookie a face area of about 2.4 square inches (15.5 cm²). The two chocolate wafers are each about 4 mm thick, with roughly 4 mm of creme between them.

Oreo dimensions by variety

Oreo variety Diameter Thickness Weight per cookie Face area
Classic (Original) 1.75 in / 44 mm 0.47 in / 12 mm 11.3 g (0.4 oz) 2.4 sq in / 15.5 cm²
Double Stuf 1.75 in / 44 mm 0.55 in / 14 mm 14.5 g (0.5 oz) 2.4 sq in / 15.5 cm²
Mega Stuf 1.75 in / 44 mm 0.55–0.6 in / 14–15 mm 18 g (0.6 oz) 2.4 sq in / 15.5 cm²
Most Stuf 1.75 in / 44 mm 0.67 in / 17 mm label lists 1 cookie per serving 2.4 sq in / 15.5 cm²
Oreo Thins 1.75 in / 44 mm 0.28–0.3 in / 7–7.5 mm 7.3 g (0.26 oz) 2.4 sq in / 15.5 cm²
Mini Oreo about 1 in / 25 mm about 0.4 in / 10 mm about 3.3 g about 0.8 sq in / 5 cm²

Where these numbers come from

Mondelēz, the company that makes Oreos, does not publish an official dimensional spec sheet for the cookie, so there is no single "official" diameter. What is official is the nutrition label: it lists a serving as 3 Classic cookies (34 g), 2 Double Stuf (29 g), 2 Mega Stuf (36 g), 1 Most Stuf, 4 Thins (29 g) and 9 Minis (about 30 g). Dividing serving weight by cookie count gives the per-cookie weights above — 11.3 g, 14.5 g, 18 g, 7.3 g and about 3.3 g — and those are the most reliable figures on this page.

The diameter and thickness are measurements. Every published measurement we've found lands between 1.75 and 1.8 inches (44–46 mm) for the diameter, and it's the same across Classic, Double Stuf, Mega Stuf, Most Stuf and Thins — only the creme layer changes, so only the thickness changes. Thickness measurements with a ruler come out around 12 mm for a Classic, 14 mm for Double Stuf and Mega Stuf, 17 mm for Most Stuf and 7–7.5 mm for Thins. Treat the diameter as ±1 mm and the thickness as ±1 mm; cookies vary slightly from batch to batch.

How thick is an Oreo?

A Classic Oreo is about 12 mm (just under half an inch) thick. Of that, each wafer is about 4 mm and the creme is about 4 mm. Double Stuf keeps the same wafers and roughly doubles the creme, which only adds about 2 mm because the creme compresses — so Double Stuf is about 14 mm, not 16. A stack of 10 Classic Oreos is about 4.7 inches tall.

How much does an Oreo weigh?

11.3 grams for a Classic (0.4 oz), straight from the nutrition label's 34 g per 3-cookie serving. Of that, the wafers are about 8 g and the creme about 3 g. A standard 14.3 oz package has 36 cookies; a 19.1 oz Family Size has 48; a 26.7 oz Party Size has 72. Double Stuf comes out to 14.5 g per cookie, Mega Stuf 18 g, and Thins 7.3 g.

What's the surface area of an Oreo?

Using the 1.75-inch diameter, one face of an Oreo covers π × (0.875 in)² ≈ 2.4 square inches, or about 15.5 cm². That number is what you need for the fun questions — how many Oreos it would take to cover a football field (about 3.4 million, counting the end zones), or how many it would take to cover the entire United States (we did the math — the answer is wilder than you'd think).

How big is a Mini Oreo?

About 1 inch (25 mm) across and roughly 10 mm thick, weighing about 3.3 grams — close to a third of a Classic. Minis come in a bite-size format and the label counts 9 of them as a serving.
